Teen Coder C# Homeschool Programming Mosaic Reviews

It's probably no mystery that I am not the most proficient at computer things. See? I don't even know what to call them! I can do only very basic things and only after someone has labored to teach me with countless mistakes. I learn slowly. Very slowly.

Computer programming was not something I ever really thought of doing but always thought it would be neat if my kids knew how to do it. But how do you teach something this technical if you don't know it yourself?

barrels and antlers by most high co.

AFTER THE SUCCESSFUL release of Most High Co.'s December collection, here is a preview of their first cut and sew product.
The crisp quality and detail of this short-sleeve button down from MHC certainly steps up their game, and just by looking photographs, the shape and form they've created is very complementing. The use of maroon and brown mixes perfectly to create a holiday feel for this month, and seeing that the button down is made with a cotton material, it'll surely keep you comfortable this chilly season.
Considering MHC's successes this year, they promise to bring a lot more next year, with a varied selection of ready-to-wear and cut and sews.
To pre-order, check out Most High Co.'s for more details.

t by alexander wang pre fall 2013

ALEXANDER WANG HAS BEEN an exciting name in the fashion industry for the longest time. After being crowned the new creative director of Balenciaga, it's not stopping him from making projects of his own. A few years ago, Wang released his "T" collection, consisting of "T-Shirt" inspired pieces. For this season's collection, basics such as maroon brown, black, white and light beige are featured with a fabric of leatherette and suede, complementing the silhouette effect made by the shape of each key pieces. I just love the minimalism in all of them.

TOPSHOP MOTO jeans

FRED PERRY shoes

THIS IS AN ENSEMBLE that was shot sometime before I flew back to Manila for the holidays. I picked up a good deal from the East End Thrift Store for the coat; they were having their fill-a-bag sale and I purchased a £10 bag for any piece of clothing you're able to fit in the bag. Sounds too good of a deal? It really was. With tactical folding, I was able to fill up a good amount of clothes. I got there very late in the day, so to find something in my size in such a good condition how can I resist?

I'd say this ensemble is pretty standard and versatile. The very light mahogany/beige brown of the coat complementing the maroon and different shades of grey.

MODEL AND MAKEUP:  JACQUELINE MILNER

CLOTHES by ARIANNE TONDA and ANN ANDRES

PHOTOGRAPHY by YOURS TRULY

I know it's been a long time since I've posted some original content here such as outfit posts and all, but my coursework deadlines are starting to inch closer and I've spent most of my time editing photos and producing artwork. I just got back from Manila, and I'm hoping that now that I'm back to routine, I'll be able to be more productive with my work and blogging.

During the shoot at Bulb, I took over 900 photos in a span of two hours; and out of that 900, I have to ~150 to edit. To be honest, it's really time consuming and takes a lot of patience, but hopefully by the end of next week I'll be able to present around about 20 refined edits! I'm loving the mix in colours of these photos so far, and I'm pretty content with what I came up with. I've decided to experiment on the curves to bring out some saturation, as well as playing around with the offset and gamma correction. The photoset follows a somehow silhouette-esque vibe, yet somehow graphic. I have to say, I'm pleased with myself.

behind-the-scenes: shoot at bulb studios

AFTER MUCH ADVANCED PLANNING, the 21st of December finally came around and although it was said to be doomsday, it didn't stop me from having the photo shoot that would put my AS Photography course on the line. I called a few friends over to Bulb Studios to help me out and it turned out to be a great success. With the help of my model friends (Patrick Metzger and Jackie Milner), and clothes from , and SoFA (School of Fashion and the Arts) graduates, Arianne Tonda and Ann Andres, we were able to organise an editorial-like shoot, showcasing Ann and Arianne's final collections as well as some pieces from Ropa.

Shooting at a large-scale studio as opposed to shooting in the studio of my school was quite the experience! This was my first studio shoot in Manila, and I was a bit anxious that I wouldn't be very savvy with the equipment Bulb provided, but it's safe to say that I've garnered some knowledge and experience and I'm ready for more! Hopefully in the near future, I'll be organising more shoots - before I fly back to London.

Thanks to the whole crew for helping out that day! You know who you guys are. And thanks to James Go for these BTS photos!

shoes: acne studios resort 2013

IMAGES from ACNE STUDIOS

I'M NOT VERY FOND OF spam mail, but it always delights me to receive a newsletter from Acne Studios, undoubtedly one of my favourite brands out there. They've recently released their latest Resort/Pre-Spring collection for this year, including some shoes and accessories.  Unfortunately, my boots from Urban Outfitters are starting to wear out, so I've been on the prawl for a decent pair of boots for these times of damp, cold, and wet weather. The collection is inspired from Western  and geometric detail; consisting of different fabrics, ranging from flax, linen, and most of which consist of cow/calf leather. From observation, I believe it's the perfect height and such a great selection of colour shades!

it only gets better from here

MANY GOOD THINGS HAVE happened since I've arrived here in London. I recently resigned from my job at Abercrombie, for reasons which I will not disclose here. Since then, I've decided to continue looking forward and seek better opportunities for me to work it. As 2013 gracefully enters, I've thought a lot about my priorities and future pursuits, and it's come to my attention that it's best if I start acting now than later. I dedicated a day going around London, with ten copies of my CV on hand, and cups of coffee to get me through the day; emails being sent out here and there for the hopes that I may just get lucky.

Long story short, I got an email back - from Suitcase Magazine. It's exciting news for me to say that I'll be interning with them starting this week!

Suitcase Magazine is the world's first experimental fashion and travel magazine, providing its readers with the most eccentric trends and hotspots from all around the globe. It's too early to say anything about what I will be doing yet, but this is something I'm very happy to be a part of, and hopefully there will be better things to come!

If the Suitcase team is reading this, I love you guys! Muchos kudos for this opportunity :)

lfw aw13 powered by instagram

AS I CONTINUE TO recover from the last stressful month I've had, I'm back with something to make up for the weeks (probably months now) that I have missed out on. Life has been one big rollercoaster ride; doors opening and closing here and there and everything just being all over the place. But it's safe to say that everything's at a different perspective since I last posted in a habitual manner, and that's in a good way.

It's that time of the year again; my favourite time. Since working in this internship, I've seen so much of the fashion world I have never seen before and it's such a new experience. Somehow contributing to the industry I love the most makes me feel rather achieved, and I give myself a pat on the back for that. Without fail, LFW brings out the most exciting things. Seeing the innovation of designers this season is seriously just thrilling, and I'm happy that I am able to come for a second season in the six months I've been living here.

I've told myself to never post Instagram photos on my blog, but I feel like since I've missed out on so many days when I could've spent the time building my content, Instagram had to be my resort. Because I'm always on-the-go, it's impossible to bring an SLR all the time. So here's a round-up of how my LFW has been so far, to compensate for the insufficient amount of posts recently.

I also took a few SLR photographs, so watch out for that.

The Art Collective presents Lance Hewison – Vessels

Lance HewisonVessels
9-14 July, 2013

Lance Hewison, Midnight, Oil on canvas, 76 x 76cm
Portrait painter from San Francisco, Lance Hewison will be hosting ‘an evening with Lance’ to launch his new body of work and exhibition ‘Vessels’ in Clerkenwell, London on the evening of July 10th.* details of times and location below
“In making Vessels I thought a lot about my perception of the human form as a solid container. I wondered if precise boundaries truly exist, like the tidy borders drawn around various countries on a map. Or, if on an unseen level, the body and its surroundings have no clear starting or stopping point. Science tell us an atom is comprised almost entirely of empty space. In this sense, perhaps no one or no thing is as fixed as we might think.
The word vessel has multiple meanings. It refers to vases or urns built to contain various substances, ships that sail across the oceans, and vascular tubes used by blood cells to traverse the body.
Technologically speaking, the internet and cellular phones are vessels for communication. The word is also used metaphorically. Like when we say we are vessels for creativity, for instance.
In “Vessels”, elliptical blips of paint merge and dissolve into brilliant fields of colour to form figures and objects. Hard contour lines have been eliminated. There is a nod to ancient Greek art, and its lust to discover ideal beauty within the human form. The male figures I’ve depicted appear caught off guard in states of restless energy. Through the medium of paint the container of flesh opens ever so slightly, and allows the form to move momentarily beyond its physical constraints”
For details on location and attending the exhibition please visit

Venue: Frameless, 20 Clerkenwell Green, London EC1R 0DP
Opening times: 9th-14th July 11am-7pm

Nintendo Direct for the 3DS Wednesday April 17th

Nintendo Direct for the 3DS is coming out this Wednesday! April 17th7AM PST!#nintendodirect #nintendo #iwata #3DS #NintendoDirectNAEveryone is expecting an update on some of the already announced 3DS games and possible Indie games coming to the e-shop. So far the only thing I know is that I won't be able to watch it live because I have a final exam at that very time. I will try to get as much detail as I can and will talk about about it!On the topic of Nintendo Direct, this is possibly the best investment of ads I have ever witnessed done by a gaming company. The amount of hype these events are getting now seem to be increasing exponentially as it does a good job at keeping everyone everyone on their toes and foaming from their mouths until the release of their products. Nintendo Direct events helps Nintendo cover some third party games with their already huge inventory of first party games without having to cram them all at E3. To be honest, it was a much needed addition as the people in North America don't buy games if they aren't advertised all too well (cuz we're some lazy SoBs when it comes to getting informed on foreign products). If you look at the complete library of 3ds/ds/gba games, a lot of game gems went unnoticed because they were getting upstaged by first party games and a few sequels to great games (like Golden Sun). If you want an example of a good unnoticed game consider looking at the Summon Night series which were some pretty god dammed good rpg/action games!  - Full Post

Currently Playing: Kid Icarus Uprising

Decided to have a little light-hearted segment of my blog dedicated to what I'm currently into or just checking out.currently playing Kid Icarus ~UPRISING~ Kid Icarus is probably one of those games you would've never expected to enjoy on the level it offered as you picked it off the shelves. When it was first announced I expected it to be just another typical platformer, but instead it turned out to be something on a completely different level. It gives off the impression that it is what a new Starfox game should be if it ever was to come to the WiiU/3DS.I really enjoy it so far, the difficulty is up there and there is quite a huge variety of enemies and weapons to mess around with. These features give me hope that I will not get bored if I delve deeper into the game. The variety of customization surprises me for a game that's pretty linear and straight forward. I commend the efforts of the developers in charge of this game as they did a godly job at transforming a small game from the platformer genre into something that really feels evolved from its predecessor. My only gripe with the game are the controls, they should've made them able to be openly customized.Well I hope to see pit return in SSBU!!! - Full Post

CG Gameplay Game Trailers

I don't know about you guys but in my personal experience in looking forward to game releases, I've stopped looking at most trailers for future games. This topic features a personal pet peeve of mine but I'm pretty sure a lot of you guys can relate to a dirty nerdy pig like me from time to time. Now it's a common trend in the gaming industry for development teams to want some hype to be generated for their product and I'm totally fine with that. What twists my mood into that of a pessimistic mess, is when they pour all the work of the studio into the CG of the trailers of that game. Not only can I tell it isn't representative of the actual game but I'm never too hopeful if it's all they have to offer.A visual representation of what I'm talking about:Ignoring the context of the image comparison wise the concept is spot on.Now I wish that there were more Gameplay trailers like Monolith Soft. The game isn't coming out soon but they still have some gameplay tests ready for their stage demo.Instead of consequently overhyping the game to a point where it drowns into the sea of blood thirsty fanboys who then follow up with "it wasn't that great" at the dawn of the game's release; I would love for all of the money to be pulled out of the CG animations I will never get to experience. That money should be placed in a piggy-bank for future use in improving the game's performance. If the gameplay itself looks good you do not need CG trailer to impress anyone. Developers have been looking on ways to cut costs, and I believe that the marketing strategies they employ to promote their products would be a good place to start. Repeatedly, they foolishly attempt to delay the inevitable when it comes to their budget while both consumers and developers suffer as a result. ~Wizpiggleton - Full Post

Debugging in Visual Studio 2011 Preview / WinRT Metro JavaScript With Live Watch Variables Pinned to the background

Yes, this is JavaScript I’m debugging in .  Just like and !  A picture is worth hundreds of words, so, here is the picture (and of course the words will follow).

About 1 year ago, I did a similar post explaining pinned variable with and the .net framework.

I won’t go into all the details again, but suffice it to say, everything is the same, but now I’m debugging in !  Up until now, I’ve felt like Firebug, Chrome and IE debuggers in JavaScript were the best way to go.  This really changes my mind.
If you notice, the problem I’m solving is I’m verifying that my min’s and max’s are tracking correctly.  Notice that I can keep pressing “run” and as I do I can see the live new values without having to go search them out.  Those variables are right where I want them.
Totally awesome!  Nice job VS team. - Full Post

Getting Fiddler to See you WCF Traffic

There are lots of articles on the internet if you search for however it’s not clear what the simplest path to follow is. For me, it turns out that just sprinkling a couple lines of code at the bottom of my windows forms app’s app.config file is all it took.  I got the tip from this post:
The magic lines are as follows:
<system.net>     <defaultProxy>       <proxy bypassonlocal="false" usesystemdefault="true" />     </defaultProxy>   </system.net> </configuration>
That’s it!  Now, Fiddler just sees the traffic.  I’m a happy camper.

With Visual Studio 2010 (and vs2011 preview) Fast Launch Not Helpful Often

Let’s say I’ve created two Visual Studio Projects with the same name “WebApp” but reside in different directories as shown below (c:\temp\Proj1 and c:\temp\Proj2).  I often call the project WebApp, however I want to keep the projects totally separate.  Below are the File/New Project dialog examples.

Now, when I click start (this is with the vs2011 preview I’m demonstrating), I see the following:

I actually have to hover over each “WebApp.sln” to tell which project is which.  I think that information should be in the pinned app itself, not require a hover over to tell which project it is.
Agree?  Add your comment below and go to the following link to vote up my connect suggestion.

From the comments, Microsoft said they would consider it for the next release, but it looks like it has not made it.  Let’s try and change that! - Full Post

Converting ASP.NET WSP (Web Site Projects) to WAP (Web Application Projects) with VS2012

Background
There are quite a few articles written on the differences between WSP’s and WAP’s.  In this article, I will not go into the details but just give you some clean mechanics necessary for converting pages using .  Some of those articles are listed below.

When I was new to Visual Studio, I did choose WSP projects because it seemed easier. Now that I’ve done quite a bit more with , I much prefer WAP projects.  Actually, I hate WSP projects primarily because of the lack of a csproj file which makes building them in any kind of automated fashion a big problem.

How To Convert with VS2012
For a more complete discussion, check out this post from Microsoft from 4 years ago.  Most of it still applies, but for VS2012, the menus are a little different.

First, simply create a new Web Application Project.  You do this by saying “Create New Project”, choose Web Site, then any of the choices remaining will create WAP’s.

You need to add any special things you had with your WSA project’s Web.config to this new project (easier said then done, but necessary).  Just make sure you don’t kill any of the modules or other important stuff in the new project.
Now, copy in all your web pages. You will just have two files from your WSA project.  For example, Default.aspx and Default.aspx.cs

Now, right click on “Default.aspx” and choose “Convert to Web Application”.

You’ll get a prompt asking you if you want to convert to a Web Application Project:

You’ll of course say “Yes” and now you have the converted page with the extra Default.aspx.designer.cs which is needed for a WAP.

Repeat this process on all your pages, be careful of things like user controls, and you are done!
